The Need

In Yemen

Yemen is currently experiencing one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, with over 19.5 million people in need of life-saving assistance. The ongoing conflict, economic instability, and environmental disasters have devastated the country’s infrastructure, leading to widespread food insecurity and malnutrition. The World Food Programme reports that unprecedented levels of acute food insecurity are primarily driven by these factors, leaving vulnerable households struggling to access sufficient food.

Recent funding cuts have further exacerbated the situation, severely impacting humanitarian operations. Médecins Sans Frontières has raised urgent concerns about the escalating malnutrition crisis, noting that the surge in cases has outpaced current treatment capacities. The reduction in aid has led to the suspension of critical programs, including emergency food assistance, medical care, and support for women and children. This has left millions at risk, highlighting the immediate need for renewed international support to prevent further deterioration of Yemen’s humanitarian situation.

Food Insecurity: As of March 2022, approximately 17.4 million Yemenis required food assistance, with projections indicating this number could rise to 19 million by the end of the year.
Malnutrition Rates: In western coastal areas like Hodeidah, malnutrition rates have reached a critical 33%, with half of the children under five and 1.4 million pregnant and lactating women affected.
Child Mortality: Between 2015 and 2018, an estimated 85,000 children under five may have died from starvation.

This winter, the crisis is worsening. Limited access to food supplies has made it harder than ever for families to secure even the most basic sustenance. Harsh weather conditions, coupled with dwindling resources and the scarcity of international aid, have only intensified the struggle. Families are left to contend with the brutal cold on empty stomachs, while children face another season of deprivation in an environment where hope seems increasingly scarce.

At Alfalah Salvation Foundation, we are determined to turn the tide. Our vision is clear: a future where no child in the Middle East goes to bed hungry. We work tirelessly to ensure families have consistent access to nutritious, culturally appropriate meals that meet their dietary needs and preserve their dignity. We believe that by addressing hunger, we can help build stronger, healthier communities, where children and families can thrive and look forward to a brighter tomorrow. Our mission is not just to feed the hungry but to restore hope and create a foundation for lasting change.
